Biographies

At FOBP, we believe it is important for donors and recipients to know the background of FOBP personnel who are or may assist them.  Biographies of other FOBP personnel may be viewed by selecting them from the list on the right.

Glynn Custred, Ph.D., Vice-Chairman

Dr. Glynn Custred is professor of anthropology at California State University East Bay (formerly Hayward). Among his specialties in his field of anthropology are sociolinguistics, borderland studies and ethnicity and nationalism. He is also president of the California Association of Scholars and a member of the board of directors of the National Association of Scholars. Glynn co-authored Proposition 209 that ended affirmative action preferences in the public sector in California. He has also been a member of the Association of Borderland Studies and has published on the U.S.-Mexico border and other border matters in both academic and popular publications.

As chairman of the FOBP Legal Defense Fund, Dr. Custred has studied the witchhunt DOJ cases against law enforcement, and in fact extensively researched Border Patrol Agent David Sipe's case and first brought that case to FOBP's attention. Dr. Custred first contacted Sipe's Defense Counsel Jack Wolfe, which led to learning about the government's suppression of evidence, suborning of perjury, and elements similar to patterns seen in other War on Law Enforcement cases.

Dr. Custred has written a number of articles and papers on illegal immigration, border security, and even civilian border observations. He has travelled across the border to Mexico to research and interview civilians and officers and brings a wealth of experience as a professor of cultural anthropology. Glynn has reviewed studies and materials published from Mexico to South America regarding immigration, labor, crime, and the impact on societies in the Western Hemisphere.

Fluent in a number of languages, Dr. Custred has represented FOBP before various media including spanish language outlets. Glynn has also participated in a Canadian led study on the borders, which published a book containing papers and results of their conference in May 2008.
